Can't open .bin file

Can't open .bin file

I have tried Stuffit, ANYtoISO etc. No luck. Have some sound sample compressed to a .bin w/ .cue file I cannot for the life of me mount or uncompress these files. Any suggestion or apps?

Macbook Pro 13' 2.26Ghz, Mac OS X (10.6), 2GB

It should just use 'Archive Utility' (System/Library/Core Services) by default (and Stuffit should de-compress bin also)

You could try selecting a file, 'Get Info' then set the 'Open Using' to System/Library/Core Services/Archive Utility and then close the panel and double-click on a nnn.bin file ...

Hi LeSpensive,

There are various forms of .bin (simply short for "Binary") out there. The following applies to the sort you have, which are essentially CD images.

You can try simply changing the .bin extension to .iso - see http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=133366 (apparently doesn't always work, though).

Alternatively you can try Toast - see http://www.command-tab.com/2005/04/10/dealing-with-bincue-files-on-a-mac/ and http://tomyeah.com/howto-convert-bin-cue-to-iso-in-mac-os-x/

http://tmkk.hp.infoseek.co.jp/xld/index_e.html is probably also worth a look.

VLC may be another option.

I'm running out of ideas, I'm afraid.

http://www.ehmac.ca/mac-ipod-help-troubleshooting/41976-converting-bin.html has some useful thoughts / options, perhaps.

I don't suppose the sender can simply send them to you in their original form or compressed in a different fashion?

One last thought is the old standby "Filejuicer". It is is pretty good at getting content out of just about anything. See http://echoone.com/filejuicer/

Its a lot cheaper than Toast!

From memory, I think the bin and cue files need to be used together to
create a disk image. I'm not in front of my Mac at the moment but the
utilities involved were MissingMediaBurner, BurnX Free and/or ffmpegX.
The first 2 are normal applications but ffmpegX requires the installation
of a few other small programs.

When I change to ISO, it fails. So no go. When I double click the .bin, it creates a "bin.cpgz" file, and then another etc. I don't have Toast, may have to buy a copy.

I did, either I'm not doing it right, or it's a no go. Found some old post on how to use VLC for such. Man this is a pain. Thanks for all the responses.

Any idea what they were originally compressed with, or what sort of files are actually contained in the bin files?

Any chance that the files may simply be corrupt?

contains .wav and MIDI files. Other apparently have been successful in opening or decoding. I replied to the original poster for some insight into the matter. Yet to hear back.
