Macbook iSight green light on

Hi, I have a macbook and the iSight's green light sometimes is on when I don't use it. Does anyone know why it does this? I also have a Macbook Pro and the green light only turns on when I open iChat or an app that uses it. Does anyone know why the green light just turns on and stays on? Thank you.

Macbook Pro 2.26 GHz, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

I am just a user like you, so I don't know the answer to technical Mac questions like yours. Any Apple-Aurhorized Service Provider can test and troubleshoot your MB using his software, test equipment, and Apple technical documents to give you the real answer as to why.

If you want to try some things you can do on your own that might correct the problem, although these suggestions will NOT answer your "why," consider the following:

 • Check whether another user might have had iSight working when you have logged into your user account.

 • If that is not the problem, restart your MB and see if the light comes on before you do anything else.

 • If the light is on as soon as you restart, check to be certain you have not forgotten about some
login items or widgets that might be using your iSight.

 • You can troubleshoot further with http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
Be sure to check multiple-user accounts and try the reset suggested there
if you do not get it working otherwise.

Any security type software installed that you are aware of?

*2 threads for you to check out:*

If you do have security software installed, you will need to contact the manufacturer customer service/troubleshooting department and/or website.

Good luck!

I don't have any security software for I don't think I need it with a Mac.

I read the threads that you provided and they didn't really provide an answer to my question. The light randomly turns on which I find weird. Someone in one of the other threads mentioned being paranoid due to the light turning on and I find myself also being paranoid, hence the post. Even with the light already on I can start an iChat and the iSight will work fine. When I exit the chat the iSight would turn off. Problem is it would randomly turn on later. When I say later, it can be when I'm still using the notebook in the same session or if I turn my notebook off and power it on in another session I can encounter the light turning back on. I would say to start photo booth of something to utilize the iSight, exit the application to turn the green light off, but it will randomly turn back on in the future without me turning it on. I think I might have to take my Macbook in so a genius can check it out.

I forgot to mention that if I can or a Mac genius figures out the problem that I'll post the answer in the forum. After reading other users posts I don't think there's a solution.

Good idea. Any solution you find will be worth trying by other users who share your issue.

We will watch for your status update.

Note.

Using the Red button does not always close an App.

In iChat for instance it will close any window.
Buddy List even though Logged in can be hidden this way. (in fact iChat will remember this if it is Quit and then Restarted, logging in the screen name but not showing the Buddy list)

It obviously closes Chats whether they are text chats or A/V ones.

In most apps it will close the Preferences if Open.

Using the red button tends to only Quit apps that use only one Window/user Interface place.

However the point made is good.
An App may not have been Quit and only a window closed.
This App may be listed in System Preferences > Accounts > Your account > Login Items and a window being closed soon after Start Up.

Hi,

You may think I was playing with semantics but I was pointing out that this

and you quit the application with the red quit button on the top left hand corner it will stay on,

Is not Quitting an app in all cases.

It is better to think of it as a Close Window Button that has the bonus of Quitting some apps.
