Seagate Expansion External Drive - 2TB

Hi, i just bought the above drive and finding it hard to get it working on my mac book pro. Anytime i try to format it in the disk utility (Mac OS Extended Journaled) i get an error message - Disk Erase Failed - File System Formatter Failed?? Anyone know what the problem is?
