iphone Lock/unlock button

Hi, i have 2 Iphone 3gs' after spending more than a hour trying to contact someone at the nearest apple store to me (2 hour + drive) i gave up, one of my iphone's has a fault with the lock function on the top button, it doesn't click anymore it just takes a tiny knock and the screen will come on i know its not meant to be like this because i have an exact same phone i bought a week later both have been in cases from the day they where bought so theres no way its been dropped on the button it isn't a big deal but its doing my head in...

How do i go about contacting apple to get this fixed, obviously phoning them is useless

Cheers

MacBook pro + 2 3gs', Mac OS X (10.6.2)

You take it into an Apple store but be prepared to be told its out of Warranty due to being damaged. Despite your assurances, it is actually damaged and they are unlikely to go for the 'honestly gov.....' excuse.

They may offer you a refurbished item for a reduced price if you are still under Applecare.

Or not if they are in a bad mood 🙂

Either way, book to see a Genius to avoid hassles.

But be prepared to grit your teeth and pay - buttons do not spontaneously break.

ive had the phone less than 2 months... and i don't fancy a 4 hour trip to just see what has happened to it and there is actually no way its been dropped on the button as it's kept in a beefy plastic case and then in my briefcase which doesn't get thrown around. so i guess its another 1 hour + phone call? if it was the other phone i would understand but im the only one who touches this one...

well in my experience with apple buttons, yes they do, my macbook pro has had a new touch pad as well, as a long list of items including a new graphics card which should have run up a cost of about £1,000+ but its all been warrantied

The one hour phone call won't do anything. Telephone people will just recite the script as they can't see it or do anything. They might say to send it in, in which case the tech will say 'damage' and send it back.

Your choice.... it'll be quicker in the store.

PS If i leave a laptop button alone and never touch it, it won't break. Every other outcome is as a result of user handling.
