Panasonic GF1 RAW missing from Aperture 3

Unbelievable ... and very disappointing.

Amazing. Panasonic GF1 has been out since last Sept and is an award winning prosumer camera. Not having RAW support is a killer for me to transition over from LR3. GF1 should be similar to GH1 which is supported. The GF1 is also the perfect target demographic for Aperture and more popular the G1, GH1. I really hope Apple gets on top of this quickly as it's the leading Micro 4/3 camera.

I just checked to see if Aperture 3 supported GF1 RAW by chance - I confirmed it does not - "unsupported file format".

This really really ***** as Aperture looks like an awesome application.

I'm really disappointed that the Olympus pens (E-P1, E-P2 at least) haven't been included! This camera has been out since early summer last year.

Apple, c'mon, roll that out in an update soon!

Same problem. Very strange that the G1 and GH1 are supported but the GF1 and EP1 2L1 are not!

I have a GF1 and very frustrated that they almost got it right.

I sent a feedback request to Apple about this issue, I suggest everyone does the same. (Aperture menu, Provide Aperture Feedback)

Adding my voice to the extreme disappointment of being confined to LR3b because of lack of GF1 support.

I have been pondering the whole switch from Aperture to LR since last fall. Both my 5D and G10 are supported but frankly I don't use them very much anymore. I'm just having too much fun with my GF1.

At this point, even if Apple did release a RAW update it will take a lot to keep me as a customer. The rumored new Pany 4/3 camera is in the wings, and how long will we have to wait for RAW updates on that? And not to mention the non-support for cameras that have been out there a lot longer than the GF1.

Once LR3 is out of beta I'm pretty sure I know where my money will be going.

As I have seen in multiple other threads on this topic this missing support has one thing in common. The unsupported files have embedded lens correction profiles.
Also AFAIK all these cameras share another feature, Omnivison imaging chips. So in my analysis Apple is not currently licensed for Omnivision patent 7355639. This is the patent for the process of lens correction used with all of these cameras.
Some analysts have theorized that Apple is avoiding any new software patent licenses until the supreme court finishes ruling on the enforceability of such things. These are just my observations of course.

Aaahhh! I'm on vacation so only have my iPhone. Does this new RAW update have the GF1?

What's the point of pointing to a support article that only confirms the OP's original frustration ?

I have done this before with unsupported image formats, and it might be easier to simply edit the camera raw xml file.
I don't recall the exact name of the file, but inside the camera raw xml file you have all the definitions of all supported cameras, just rename the GH1 entry to GF1 and you're set.

This way you don't need to hack your precious raw files.

No intent to mislead or rub anything in. I thought the supported model numbers included that model -- my error.
