GoDaddy IMAP E-mail Delayed Receipt

I don't know if they are related, but this issue was stated a few months ago on the forums: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10528636#10528636

Mail is set up with 4 e-mail accounts: MobileMe (IMAP), Gmail (POP), outside IMAP, and GoDaddy's IMAP.

All of the accounts excluding the GoDaddy one receive messages either through IDLE or regular intervals (set to 5 minutes). However, the GoDaddy IMAP account sometimes "forgets" to get messages. Opening the Get Account Info option for the account suddenly prompts it to download any layover messages.

I am positive it is Mail (or the way the GoDaddy servers talk to Mail) with the issue, as my phone and iPod Touch both receive messages as they come in, and many times the computer lags behind by up to a few hours.

Likely related, Console messages which occur every few minutes:

Did you find anything out on this issue. I keep having similar problems with my godaddy imap accounts.

I'm getting the same thing here... consider me a +1.

If I quit & reopen downloads immediately. As well as if I manually force a sync. No other imap accounts are having this issue other than the 1 acct I have on secureserver.net.

Thanks for the contribution. I'm trying that now, but IDLE is part of what makes IMAP so great...of course, when Mail loses the connection and doesn't download messages for hours, IDLE loses its appeal.

Have you been noticing the error messages in the Console with IDLE off?

Updated to the recently-released 10.6.3 and issue continues to exist (as does the Console "spamming" of error messages about it). Turning off IDLE does seem to make sure messages arrive in a steady stream (but not "pushed"), though errors in Console continue.

Same problem here... it's maddening. 2 Godaddy IMAP plans. I haven't verified the console messages, but the symptoms are identical.

I seem to also have this problem with other email clients, but not with the severity associated with Mail.app.

Both Entourage and Thunderbird will occasionally bring in IMAP messages on their own, but usually are requiring a manual check... the difference in this case is that I don't have to quit these apps to retrieve the messages.

Both are configured to use IMAP idle, so I'm not missing that part of the configuration.

I've simply given up on IDLE, since I need it to be downloading new messages, not randomly stopping for hours. It's the Console error spamming & lack of proper IDLE support together that really are frustrating.

Just to chime in, I'm having the same issues and would love a solution. I also notice that outgoing emails are extremely S-L-O-W. Any recommendations would be most helpful.

Same here, have been having problems with the IDLE command for ages. Today I opened the console for another problem and it is flooded with * Assertion failed messages. Have been troubleshooting but am giving up. MobileMe mail behaves as it should.

I've also had this issue and have just discovered a simple solution. It seems to happen due to the way GoDaddy's IMAP servers handle system mailboxes like Sent/Drafts/etc. In Mail, you should see a list item towards the bottom of the source selector for each IMAP account. If expanded, this list shows folders available on the server. For GoDaddy, you'll see "Sent Items", etc. Select one of them, then go to Mailbox->Use this Mailbox for-> and select the relevant type. So for example, select "Sent Items" and then select "Use this Mailbox for->Sent". You'll have to log in to you webmail and move the message in your "Sent Messages" (Apple's name) into the "Sent Items" folder. Repeat this for each of the 4 GoDaddy system folders.

This completely resolved all issues for me.

I use GoDaddy, Gmail, MobileMe, and Earthlink. I have this exact problem, but only with the GoDaddy account. It's very upsetting since I use GoDaddy for my business account and missed a time critical email message a few days ago. I tried the above solution and that didn't help. How can we band together and convince someone at Apple and/or GoDaddy that there is a problem?

Thanks for the suggestion, Ben, however, here at least, that was done the day the account was set up. For my computer, it appears to be a deeper issue between the software and their system.

Still waiting on a true resolution for all of us...
