Apr 20, 2010 4:59 PM in response to Dr Videoby robcfx,Same problem here - Failed: 34x crash service down
I had compressed several movies and then all of a sudden all I get is Failed: 34x crash service down. I changed nothing, it was working fine and now its been a couple weeks of hunting for an answer.
FCP 7, Compressor 3.01 on a Mac Pro 8-core Intel Xeon 2.8
So I just tried the same thing, same setting & video my MacBook Pro and it works.
Whats up here? -

Apr 21, 2010 1:25 AM in response to Dr Videoby robcfx,Same thing here on 8-core. Whats fully bizarre is that I was compressing files no with problems, comp was running. compressor was open and all was fine. I added another movie and got the error. I changed nothing and now its been 2 weeks that Compressor fails "Failed: 3x crash service down" with FCP 7 and Compressor 3.5.2
Today I tried my MacBook Pro and it works. -
Apr 27, 2010 3:10 PM in response to robcfxby steveflp, same thing with me - no compressor after FCP 7 install. I can use compressor by FCP send to, and i put a big QT movie in DVD studio pro and it worked. the other test i did was with FCP closed, open compressor tried a 30 second file and it worked fine, put in a 31 minute file FAILED. - i deleted every thing apple support said to and re-installed compressor and qmaster and still no good. this is as drag as compressor always worked for me. -
Apr 27, 2010 11:47 PM in response to steveflpby Mark J1,Same here!! 3X crash! Must be some recent update, all i updated recently was Safari.
This is really a pain, can someone from Apple look at this??

Apr 27, 2010 11:59 PM in response to Mark J1by Mark J1,Anyone using Anti-Alias on? I turned mine off and compressor is working fine!!
Everyone should tell apple this so they fix it!!

Apr 28, 2010 5:58 AM in response to Dr Videoby last resort,I didn't have anti-alias on but taking a hint from that I turned on Frame Controls and then turned them back off and it works. Seems there some memory glitch in Frame Controls, I suspect its cache oriented.
Although I got it to work again I'm not calling this solved just yet because some people have said this issue is intermittent. -

Everyone experiencing this problem should submit a bug report to Apple. The more reports they get, the higher priority it receives.

May 16, 2010 2:52 AM in response to Dr Videoby we88,Turning anti alias off also worked for me for this problem, but this is a workaround NOT a solution. Definitely a bug. Only began happening for me after I paid the cash and upgraded to FCS2. -
May 17, 2010 10:33 AM in response to we88by Brian Gary,On thing that can be worthwhile when addressing Compressor/QMaster issues is to FULLY uninstall and then reinstall those two components.
Here's a free app that will help you with the uninstall:
http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm
You can then use Pacifist to just install Compressor and QMaster while leaving the rest of the apps alone.

Jun 27, 2010 12:08 AM in response to Dr Videoby w.pasman,Same problem here. But I am using final cut studio 2 (final cut 6.0.6, compressor 3.0.5). Running on MacBook Pro 2.33 dual core, OSX 10.6.3.
In order to see the "Failed 3x crash" I have to manually start the batch monitor and click the icon:
Job Type: Compressor
Priority: High
Time Elapsed: 2:26:20
Time Remaining: 0:00:00
Percent Complete: 100
Status: Failed: 3x crash service down
I tried to set destination to various disks - the source disk (usb) and the system disk (internal HD). Both failed. -
Jul 8, 2010 2:25 PM in response to last resortby gellstone,For what it's worth, none of the potential solutions mentioned above resolved this for me. However, I did check the box beside "Include Chapter Markers only" after selecting the "Extra" tab in the video inspector, and this yielded a successful compression. -
Jul 30, 2010 10:35 AM in response to gellstoneby hiproductions,Same Issue of the 3x crash error on compressor. I clicked the "include chapter markers only" and it began compressing fine. I was concerned that it would delete some or all of my chapter markers because I left them generically named, but it didn't delete them at all...all chapter markers came through fine. Thanks for posting this workaround.
