Arial-BoldItalicMT font missing after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Arial-BoldItalicMT font missing after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I updated to Snow Leopard yesterday and when I open iWeb I get a message that the font Arial-BoldItalicMT is missing. The program does not offer a substitute and this happens to be my favorite font, which I use in all my websites.

The text in all my pages appears stacked as if the kerning was corrupt. There is no way to fix this through the inspector nor through the font window. i tried to look for this font on the internet to add it to my fonts suitcase, but I cannot find it as written in the error message (Arial-BoldItalicMT)

Can anyone help?

I tried restoring the iWeb domain file from yesterday's back up but this did not solve the problem.
I cannot update any of my pages for fear of passing on this problem to my live, published pages on my hosting service.

It could be a damaged font database. Boot into Safe Mode which will delete the font db file. See if that will fix it.

I tried your suggestion and the problem still persists.

I also tried changing the font to Hervetica but I am not able to save the changes in iWeb (it quits if I try)

Any other thoughts?

Launch Font Book, find the font and deactivate it. Then reactivate, launch iWeb and see what happens.

Thanks. I just tried that.

That font (Arial-BoldItalicMT) appears to be missing. Instead there are six (6) Arial families (none, however, have the dash in the name).
Arial
Arial Black
Arial hebrew
Arial Narrow
Arial Rounded MT Bold
Arial Unicode MS

Last week, I updated to iLife 09. I also just ran all the OSX updates and iLife updates. My computer is up to date on both programs and operating system. Where can I download that font and add it? I cannot find it by doing a google search. (Sorry I am new to working with fonts in OSX)

Also is there a way for me to tell iWeb to substitute the font. Other times it seems to suggest substitutions itself if there appears to be fonts missing...

Arial Bold Italic is in 10.5.

The font as you write it "Arial Bold Italic" is in my 10.6 folder. As per OT's suggestion I turned it off and on again. The font name written in the error message is "Arial-BoldItalic"
I don't know what the dash means but it does not seem to be a change in name from 10.5

I tried re-installing the font. I also tried making a copy of it and adding the dash to the copy but iWeb crashes if I do this when I try to save, so I trash the copy with the dash.

Arial is the only font that seems to be having the problem in iWeb. Just now, however, I opened word and whenever I tried to select Arial as the font, word showed Arial selected but one of the dingbat fonts actually came out as characters when I typed. Could there be another preference document that I should trash/rebuild. Some directory somewhere sounds corrupt.

I don't know what the dash means

If you look at the font info in FontBook for Arial Bold Italic, it shows Arial-BoldItalicMT as the "postscript name."

Got it. Thank you. Any idea what is causing this? Should I re-start the computer between disabling the fonts on font book and enabling them again?

Any other suggestions?

You might try clearing out the font caches and try again. You can use FontNuke, OnyX or Cocktail.
