My iPod randomly fast forwards...?

So I restored my iPod to try and fix this, and it didnt work, no matter what am im doing, it'll randomly fast forawrd the song, not switch to the song, but it'll speed the current song up for a bit, sometimes even skip it, sometimes not. and it stops randomly too, and itll happen in apps too! and just today one of the speakers in my headphones started to short out, so are these two connected? ive tried several pairs of headphones and things and the same result. I've treated my iPod with great care so i dont know what it is...

I'm starting to have the same problem. After about 1 hours use the song pauses, then starts again, may pause and start several times then it starts to fast forward so I give up and turn it off. This has occurred in the last 2 weeks, the only thing different I have done was to download a free app. I'll try removing the app and see what happens.

I have had the same problem with my 8g iPod Touch, and last weekend, I took it to the Genius bar. they of course couldn't find anything wrong with it, but they exchanged it for another since I just bought it in August of last year. Unfortunately, the new iPod touch has the same problem. Songs will speed up randomly, then start over, or sometimes skip to the next song. I've previously (with the other iPod Touch) tried restoring it, restarting it, resetting it, etc. I've not found an explanation yet.

I have a theory about this. I think it might have something to do with the headphones. I have the same problem, and it started while I was out for a run with my iPhone. I noted that the mic/button on the headphones was getting stuck to my neck due to it being kinda sweaty. Next thing I know, the music started pausing and restarting and then fast-forwarding on its own. Perhaps the salt in the sweat got into the mic/button and started causing it to freak out? Now the same thing happens randomly.

Can anyone else verify that maybe the headphones are the culprit? I have a spare pair here at my office and I'll try an experiment.

Good luck, everyone.

I'm having the same problem with brand new headphones so I'm pretty sure it's not that. My issue started last week when I updated the software to 3.1.3. I never had one problem before the update and I've had problems ever since. It started with my headphone volume not working...then today it started randomly pausing and playing songs too fast. It would be quite a coincidence to me if it's not related to the software update. Anyone hear of a fix?

It is absolutely the headphones. I have the same problem - the iphone will keep stopping music on its own and fast forward intermittently. But it only does it when I've run and am soaked and the headphones are sweaty. Curiously, there have been a couple of times when it does it when I think the remote on the headphones are dry, but since I'm sweaty - the remote must have been involved. When it behaves oddly like that, if I disconnect the headphones and press play, it might act up for a second but then usually behaves. Putting the same headphones back in the jack though, until another day (presumably when they're dry??) causes it to do that again.

Mine is doing the same thing. At first I thought it was corrupted file/virus, but I ran all sorts of scans and it still does it, restored, even got a new one and it still does it but never does when I play it through other head phones or plug it up to a stereo. I have tried other head phones and it does seem so far that that is the problem. But where any of you using the In Ear Headphones??

I just had this problem today with my 6 month old iPod touch. I was 1/2 way through my 2 hour hike in the forest and all of a sudden the songs started skipping, and fast forwarding and then the voice control came on. I had to shut the whole thing down and put it away. I have used these head phones before but never had this problem. Maybe it's the sweat buildup on that metal contact on the back of the head phone remote. Thoughts?

I believe it may be the headphones. I was on my treadmill a few hours ago, testing a new step-counter app. Everything was fine, until I got a little sweaty, then the fast-forwarding and skipping started, and the Voice Control came on periodically without me doing anything. At first, I thought maybe it was the App that was screwing things up, but then I tried just listening to music without the App, and it kept doing the same thing.

Right now, I have been listening to music on my headphones from the Ipod Mini, and everything seems to be fine. I just tried plugging in the newer headphones with the mic and it automatically started skipping and stuff.
