IPod Touch Purple Dot

when I use my iPod outside, I see a distinctive purple dot, at the top of my iPod. It's about as small as a bullet ●. it's barely visible indoors. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem, and if it's normal. It's on the black area above my screen.

The iPod Touch has an ambient light sensor near the top of the iPod. You can see it as a small little circle under the glass face with the correct lighting. On my gen 2 iPod, its just right of center above the useable screen. You can see it clearly if you shine a flashlight on your iPod.
