Safari Selectively Not Opening Google, Yahoo and other pages....

Is anyone else experiencing the following problem, and what can you recommend in regards to the remedy?:

Today, without any visible cause, Safari has stopped opening Google.com, Yahoo.com and other webpages, while allowing others through...

I get the following message:

[Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “ https://www.google.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “www.google.com”.]

I shut down and restarted Macbook, I also reset safari and deleted all cookies, as well as restarted airport... to no avail.

It's interesting to note, when I turn on a proxy software which masks the IP, all websites open.

Any ideas & suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you.

HI,

Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities)

Select Passwords on the left then delete the keychain on the right for Google, Yahoo, and any other sites you are having problems with. Also, from the Keychain Access Menu Bar click, Keychain Access/Keychain First Aid. Enter your admin password and click Verify. If necessary, click Repair

Quit Keychain Access and relaunch Safari.

Safari does not get along well with proxies.

Third party Safari plugins can cause issues using a proxy on Safari also.

Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.

Your forum profile indicates you are running 10.5.6. If this the case, you need to click the Apple Menu/Software Updates.

Im having the same issue (Can't open google and other pages, i can go to yahoo, and Youtube became unresponsive this morning) i can't open the same sites in Firefox either. I tried the Keychain thing but the only thing relating to safari in the passwords was a "Safari Forms Autofill" section, thats it. I have a 3rd party proxy IP masker and turned it on, but nothing happened. Im thinking of calling tech support soon if i cant get an answer here in the forums.

I solved my problem. I think what happened was my proxy software (Peerguardian) was updated and google and youtube were somehow added to the block list. However, unchecking the filter lists doesn't do anything, nor does quitting the program. You need to disable the actual filters to access the blocked sites. I noticed that if you restart your computer, the lists reactivate so you need to either continuously keep disabling the filters or remove the program altogether. Hope this helps.
