Screen resolution option only 800x600

I have a G5 Dual 2.3 and an Acer 1917A monitor. I used this monitor with no issue on a G4 Dual. Plugged it into the "new" G5 and the only screen resolution option I have is 800x600 (not high enough). I have not installed any software from acer (can't find it, and frankly don't know if I ever had any). Any ideas as to what I am missing?

G5 Dual 2.3, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

How is the monitor connected? DVI? VGA?
What graphics card do you have?

Might try a PRAM reset:

I tried the PRAM reset but it made no difference. The graphics card is an ATI Radeon 9600. The monitor is currently connected via DVI. I tried both ports and that made no difference either.

What's the native resolution, 1280x1024?
(I can't find info on a 1917A)

Try another user account.
If you need to, set up another user account with admin privledges.
See if the problem persists.
if not, it is a software problem in your account.

Might also download the ATI Display Panel, and see if resolution adjustment can be made there:

Well, I tried both of those suggestions, but I was not able to fix the issue. I think I will call Acer and make sure that there was not a disk that I installed on the last computer and have somehow misplaced it.
In the meantime, if there are any other suggestions, they are greatly appreciated.

Okay, that was strange...
Just restarted the computer after a couple basic software updates (java, iphoto and safari) and voila! the screen resolution changed.
I am going to attribute it to the ATI suggestion. I installed the download and looked at the immediate information that popped up...saw no immediate setting change/option that would appear to make a difference (changed nothing). I guess I just needed to restart so that something that was installed along with it could take effect.
