Phone extension dialing

I am having difficulty in reaching the proper person when entering a phone extension. The main phone number works fine, but when asked to enter the extension it sometimes goes to the incorrect person with a different extension number. Strange I know, but it just keeps happening.

Dell, Windows XP, 3G I phone

If you have a poor connection, the DTMF tones can become distorted. Are you always making calls from the same location, or could you try from somewhere where there is a really good signal ?

I'll try calling from a different place and see if that helps. I have called from both inside a building and outside with the same result. I will pay more attention to the signal strength and see what I can see.
I appreciate the feedback and will update next time I have to make these calls.

Also, try it from a landline - if it still does it, then the problem is at their end.

A landline works, as that is what I have resorted to when I can't get through on my Iphone. I also checked the bars on my phone in the room I usually call from , and they appear to be fine.
This is based on calling the company I work for, and have to put in phone extensions to connect to the people I need to speak to. The company is nationwide, so when putting in the same extension... I have contacted Salt Lake City and Reno.. when I'm trying to get to Green Bay. It's kind of frustrating for all of us.

Try programming in the extension when you enter the phone number for your contact.... (after you enter the phone number, hit the symbols key on the bottom left.... then on the symbols screen enter "pause" and then the extension number.... ) I usually put in two "pauses", and have had no issues - it always works, even when my connection is a bit scratchy, and has the added bonus that I don't have to manually enter extensions when making calls.

The only thing I can think of is a bit long winded and involves recording the tones on someones iPhone with Visual Voicemail and the getting the audio recording and running it through a DTMF tester.
