Q: Folder Actions and External Drives

I have a simple question that i cant seem to find a definitive answer to.

I have just started playing with folder actions which sound like they could be incredibly useful. I have an external nas with various samba shares i have these connected to my mac and want to run a certain folder action whenever i drop a new file into a certain folder.

I have right clicked on the folder in question and selected more >> configure folder actions and then added an action on the folder to alet me when a new item is added. However it doesnt seem to be working. Running the exact same steps on a folder on my local drive works fine.

Can folder actions be added to external drives.

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

yes, folder actions can definitely be run both on external drives and on network shares. I can do it on remote afp shares. haven't tried it with smb shares but I don't see why it should matter. I don't know why it's not working for you. try restarting and maybe setting up folder actions from scratch. folder actions are very buggy. go to the folder home directory/library/launchagents and delete the files com.apple.FolderActions.enabled.plist and
com.apple.FolderActions.folders.plist. then log out/in and re-enable folder actions and attach the one that you want to a remote folder.
