3G vs. 3Gs

I'm ready to purchase an iPhone finally, and was just curious--aside from the additional features of the 3Gs, is there any real performance difference between the two models? The 3G's price tag is a lot more appealing, but I don't want to buy something that's gonna feel obsolete too early.

You don't know that for sure. Apple have not announced anything yet. Their past release schedule doesn't guarantee their future release schedule.

At 600MHz, the iPhone 3GS's processor is almost 1.5 times faster than the processor in the iPhone 3G, which runs at 412MHz.

It also has double the RAM which helps things run faster, and an improved graphics chip.

I've read that the 3GS is a bit snappier than the 3G due to more RAM and a fster processor. You can see the differences here...

The 3G and original iPhone have the same processor and RAM.

The 3GS has a faster processor and double the RAM along with an improved graphics card.

Original & 3G: Samsung 32-bit RISC ARM 1176JZ(F)-S v1.0
620 MHz underclocked to 412 MHz
PowerVR MBX Lite 3D GPU

3GS: Samsung S5PC100 ARM Cortex-A8
833 MHz underclocked to 600 MHz
PowerVR SGX GPU

The 3GS also supports 7.2 Mbps HSDPA.

Thanks for all the info. Yeah, I should just scrape up the extra 100 bucks. More RAM alone is enough of a reason, and even though I don't think I need it, video recording sure would be fun . . .
