O2 to AT&T Transfer?

I was in England for school for a year and bought an iPhone and used it on the O2 network, Ive moved back to the US now and was wondering if i was able to transfer my phone over to AT&T Iv'e tried to go to an apple store to get information on it but was not really helped or given any other advice. is there anyway i can get it unlocked from O2 and locked to AT&T again?

As Julian Wright says if you can get O2 to do this you will not be locked to AT&T you can just slip in their sim and connect to itunes to download their carrier settings without it relocking. O2's unlock is an official Apple one. If you were on PAYG you would need £15 on an O2 sim card that is in the phone when you are applying for the unlock.
