I am trying to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and to do so it says I need to uninstall itunes...if I do so will I lose all my files downloaded through iTunes?

    There's no reason it should cause you to lose your files. Your music is in your iTunes folder, separate from the iTunes app. However, it is always recommended that you have a back up of any files that are valuable to you. An iPod doesn't count as back up.

    Good practice would dictate that you back up any files on your computer that you can't afford to lose before doing a major system update. You can back up your iTunes by dragging the +entire iTunes folder+ to an external drive. This will save everything, including your playlists.
