Apogee Duet - no digital ins

I'm about to make the leap to Logic Pro 9 and an Apogee Duet. My one reservation is that I have a Pod XT Pro rack mount for an amp simulator (love it) and would like to use digital ins for it's output. Not possible with the Apogee Duet unless I'm mistaken.

I have an MBox II Pro and an original MBox also and have read about using aggregate inputs with Logic.

Is there a solution that y'all know about?

a) you're right, there's no digital inputs on the Duet

b) the Duet is not supported as an Aggregate Device

c) Digidesign Core Audio drivers are a mess and I wouldn't use a Digi interface with Logic.

According to me, the best solution is to buy a Duet and connect you Pod via analog

Is there a list somewhere of supported aggregate devices? That would be useful.

Believe me I've had my fill of Digidesign, nothing but headaches.

Is this possible - switch the input to the onboard audio input and monitor through the Apogee?

No, because that would involve to create an aggregate device. Check out the MOTU Ultralite if you want digital inputs. The quality of the MOTU pres and converters are not as good as the Duet but better than the Mbox and the drivers are rock-solid.

You've (and sorry for the single n at the end of your name - German I'm guessing) answered it, but one final question - if I am all hung up on the digital ins (apparently I am), when I'm doing guitar tracks theoretically I should be able to switch to the digital audio in on the Macbook and monitor through the headphone out. Is this correct? I always record with headphones.

Yes, you could do that. However, keep in mind that the digital input on Macs is optical and I'm not sure there's optical out on your Pod.

You could get an M Audio CO2 Digital to Optical convertor. Your MBox 2 Pro has S/PDIF so you could use that to feed monitors and have no need for a Duet at all, saving you cash and cpu. Just a thought.

You have a USB output. I record directly into Logic via USB from my Pod X3 via USB. The sound is excellent and the Pod just pops up as an available plug in the plug list. No aggregate device, no external HW, just plug and record.

Why not take the simple route?
