VNC server with bigger resolution that MPA disply

Is there a way to start a VNC server on a MPA or MBP with a higher resolution (like the -geometry parameter) than available on the MPA display ?

MPA, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Yes - I use clamshell mode all the time on a MacBook Air.

It requires an external display and cables to get the display resolution higher so that the OS allocates the pixels larger than the built in screen.

I know of no virtual desktop software that will trick the Mac OS. There are several good ones for the X window system and linux and PC - but macs are different.
