iPod doesn't show up in 'My Computer'

So, when I connect my iPod(5g) it will not show up in the 'Devices with removable storage' section in 'My Computer'. It shows for a moment, but as soon as iTunes opens it disappears. So, when I try to upload videos or pictures onto my iPod, there is no folder for them to go to. iTunes says 'Cannot sync iPod, folder cannot be found' or something like that. Any advice?

This could be due to a damaged iPod photo cache. If you delete the iPod photo cache as per the following document, does your syncing behavior improve?
