macbook battery stuck at 100%

My macbook battery appears to be stuck at 100%! The toolbar icon shows 100% and 10:00 hours remaining and the side green indicator lights are always fully lit. It is a problem because I am given no indication of how much battery life I actually have left except for the final "you're now running on reserve power" flash. I have restarted multiple times, removed the battery and tried to do an SMC reset (shiftcontroloption...not sure it that was right) but no changes have occured. Does anyone have any solutions for this weird problem?
