ITUNES not responding freezes when I try to burn playlist to cd

I select burn cd insert blank disc status window says checking media nothing happens after that. CD drive is somehow removed from computer I have to ctrl-alt-del to close itunes i have to shut down computer so that cd drive repopulates.I was able to burn 7 cds yesterday only after shutting down computer after each one
Tried changing device filter that didnt help.
UnInstalled/reInstalled cd drive Itunes still freezes.
Ran Itunes diagnostics everything OK
What am I missing here
