Download 'Decompression failed' notice..?

Im getting a 'decompression failed' notice when downloading .zip files....not had this problem before.
Any help much appreciated.

Every time you post you show a different computer and a different operating system. Please clear that up.

In Safari Preferences/General, do you have the box 'Open Safe Files after Downloading' ticked?

Try UNticking that and restart Safari.

My guess is that you are trying to decompress the zip file with Safari. It can't do that.

Instead, allow the file to download to your desktop and use Stuffit Expander to unzip it.

Download and Install the 10.5.8 combo update available here.

After the installation, repair disk permissions.

Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Go to ~/Library/Safari and move the Downloads.plist file to the Trash and relaunch Safari. If you still have problems with downloading files...



Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

HI,

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

Relaunch Safari and see if that helps....

Also, if you use a 3rd party app to decompress .zip files, that could be the problem as Safari
decompresses those for you. As a side note, Safari moves the .dmg to the Trash which can always be dragged out.

Hi thanks for the reply - but Im still getting the same error - 'the operation could not be completed. (SafariErrorDomain error 0) - VERY frustrating as its been fine until 2 days ago..! (updated to 10.6.2)

incidently, I couldnt find the 'com.apple.safari.plist' file - didnt seem to be in the folder...

Any help much appreciated..
