My sustain pedal is controlling panning...AND I DON'T WANT IT TO...

For some reason, the sustain pedal on my controller is affecting the pan on whatever track i am working on, whether audio or software. when i press the pedal, the pan moves in 2 or 3 increments until it is all the way to the right. This is bizarre...I have an m-audio keystation 88

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2), 2.66 GHz, 6GB RAM, 2 250GB Hard Drives, M-audio Keystation Pro 88

i realized that my keystation is connected via midicables to the audio interface... not via usb...could that be screwing things up? should i use the usb connection instead? or do you use both? is there a difference in latency when recording midi?

It really doesn't matter whether the MIDI comes in over MIDI cables, or whether the MIDI comes in over USB cables, as long as you are only using one or the other (not both).

There is no real difference between the two, other than a matter of convenience and setup constraints.
