Source code error

I am getting error messages on some of my downloads that say "the DL cannot be saved because the source code cannot be found. See administrator."

I'm the administrator. before this, we had to clean-install 10.4.6 and upgrade to 10.4.9. We can't go to 10.4.11 because of the above error. We did the reinstall three times. No joy. I've recently installed Poser 7.0.071. I need to upgrade to P 7.4 but can't because of the above.

I've run disk utility, and fixed the permissions. The repair side of the disk says no repairs necessary.

I need to get back to work. What now?

Richard, are you using Firefox?

If so quit Firefox, & try deleting this file...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/[SomeRandomChrs].default/compreg.dat

Try to get the combo directly & choose Save File instead of Open with anything...

The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...

Repair Permissions after installing, reboot.

Also try Ethernet instead of Airport if you can.

/Firefox Downloads/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.11PPC.dmg.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

I got this after following your instructions. So I tried Safari. Only problem is that my wifi keeps dropping out. With any browser; Opera, too. I get a full signal strength. I only can connect with the net with wifi.

If I move my entire drive to a safe place (Another HD) would an erase and install solve the problem? If I did that, could I bring over my prog files and data files, or would I just be reloading the problem.

I believe your problem is a flaky/intermittent wifi.

Try making a New User, log into that one & try.

An Apple Store is a good idea to get it there if you can, but if not try Terminal & curl, like...

while ! curl -C - -O 'http://supportdownload.apple.com/download.info.apple.com/Apple Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Mac_OSX/downloads/061-3461.20071114.8Uy45/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.11PPC.dmg'; do sleep 10; done

Curl should be resumable.

Well, I tried the terminal thing. Not having a clue about terminal, I lifted your stuff and tried it. It wouldn't do any of the requests.

So I made a new user. That seemed to stabilize my firefox, well enough to DL 4.11 successfully. When I tried it with the latest up-grade to Poser 7, I got the same old error msg. But I noticed in the msg to "TRY LATER". So I did. and it came through. Go figure.

So the problem is solved, somewhat. I still don't know why I'm getting the error message, or where it's coming from. I'm going to go from an airport card to an airport hub to get even more signal strength.

I `preciate the help. We got through the problem.
