Iphone music player starts playing, stops, skips, fast forwards by itself..

My iphone seems to now have its own identity. The ipod starts and stops by itself, it skips the songs at will, it also goes fast forward without me touching it.

Could anyone please assist me with a solution to this problem. I have now had to switch it off. Why is it doing all this.

Thank you

iPhone 3G, iPhone OS 3.1.2

Same thing started happening to me. No solution yet. I'm going to an Apple store tomorrow to see what's up.

This is great. At least I know I am not the only one. I had this problem after a month with the iphone. It only occurs at the gym, but that's where I listen to my music, so that's not important. Went to the apple store and they said it seemed to be an issue with the ipod controls within the phone. Tech told me to restore and if it continued to go back. It worked fine for 3 weeks, have another appointment tomorrow and will see what I find out.

I am having a similar problem...bought my iPhone 2 months ago. 3 times now it has randomly started playing music while I am driving in the car. I have the phone locked and just sitting either in the consol or in my pocket and all of a sudden I start hearing music. My wifes iPhone just started doing the same thing and has done this twice in the last month.

Neither of us use the ipod player on our iphone or use headphones. but somehow the ipod just starts playing.

Yep. Same problem here - My phone has been starting, stopping when I'm playing music.
But after a few days of this now the music I play becomes mangled every once in a while - the sounds get screechy for like a mini second - craps up the sound and beat and everything. Very strange. Anyone else having this problem with the mangled audio?

I thought I had solved this problem a day after I posted that I was having it -- I did a couple of resets and also cleared the headphone jack with compressed air and then it was working smoothly again.

Now today it started up again. When I unplugged my headphones the iPhone acted as if they were still connected, so no sound came out the speaker and the volume buttons showed the "headphones" indication. Then, while watching a YouTube video, the sound started coming back on and off intermittently, and the playback started and stopped at random. Once again, clearing the jack with compressed air helped, but I still seem to get the problem where the external sounds don't happen even though the headphones are disconnected.

i've been experiencing the same problem. itunes seems to have a mind of its own on my iphone: songs randomly jump, playback at 5x, skip, stop...additionally, itunes has occasionally interrupted other music programs i've been running (e.g. deezer, last.fm) to play a song, playlist, etc. from my library, typically in fast-forward, screwed-up fashion.

if anyone has any ideas, please let us know. this essentially makes the phone unusable as a music player.

This has been happening to me lately as well. I've tried rebooting my iPhone but nothing seems to help. I really don't want to wipe and restore my phone, only to find this happening again.

I've seen some other threads about turning off "shake to shuffle". I just checked and mine was set to "on". We'll see if that helps.

Even so, "shake to shuffle" shouldn't cause the symptoms I'm seeing: Randomly, out of nowhere songs start skipping around, playing back at 2x speed, stopping altogether, or just skipping to the next track automatically.

Something must have changed because I listen to the iPod application on my iPhone nearly every day and this just started happening recently, around the time of the last iPhone software update.

I seem to have the same prob... when i use ipod to view videos after about 30 minutes voice control gets activated and playback is interrupted. i press cancel and when playback continues the videos sometimes are skipping, stopping or on fast forward... And as if that wasn't enough voice control keeps getting activated... It's really frustrating!!! I use it while I'm running and at the beginning I though it might be the mic on the headphones that activates the voice control but already checked it and still the problem continues... any luck anyone???

i hope apple execs are looking at these posts so they can fix this with the next upgrade.

Apple do not read these posts - we are all just users like you. Unless you tell Apple by submitting some feedback, they will not do anything http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Bear in mind that unless a lot of people suffer the fault, its unlikely to be a high priority issue as there are millions of us out here who do not have the problem so its very unlikely to be a firmware/software issue.

Not a lot of help I know - sorry.

thats great, but I've told apple abotu this before, they even admit they wont get back to you.the problem seems to be every other headphones ive used in my ihpone £G cause this problem, but the ones that came with it dont (undortunately they went all crackly within months) so the question is, why do these other "iphone compatible" headphones not work with some iphones? its got to be bad build quality...its a shame as its a great item, but for the price, i just want it to work 😟
its a right pain to have to turn it off & back on again every time I plug my headphones in.

Iphone music player starts playing, stops, skips, fast forwards by itself..
