Is the iTunes Store DRM free or not?

How do I tell if an album on iTunes is DRM free, and what bitrate it is? I feel like I must be missing something, is there really no way to know until after you have bought it?

Sorry to ask a question which has probably been asked before, but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.7), 2.0 White 2GB 160Gb

All new song purchases from the iTunes Store are DRM free 256Kbps AAC files.

As provided, ALL music on itunes has been DRM free for almost a year now.

The iTunes Store still uses DRM for video and TV shows, but not for music.
