iPod Touch 32 GB 3rd Generation Playing music by itself.

I plugged my iPod in to my computer speakers one day and all of a sudden, it started playing music by itself. I paused the song but it automatically switched back to play. Then it started playing the song 2x fast. This really freaked me out. Right after that, the voice control screen comes up (although I am just using a regular 3.5 mm jack). So I unplugged the jack from the iPod and it turned to normal. I'm running OS 3.1.3. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Is this a software/hardware issue? Any fix?

~Thanks,
Dominic A.

I am having the same issue with my 32 GB iPod Touch device. I was at the gym and my iPod was playing good for about an hour and all of a sudden my iPod started pausing and playing on its own. Also, the tracks and the music started skipping. I use the headphones with the built-in microphone/voice control and the iPod would automatically stop playing music and the "voice control" mechanism would come on. It freaked me out so I am restoring it right now and I hope that it fixes the problem. Maybe it is a virus? Help!!

It's been about 2 months since this didn't happen, I guess it fixed itself? But another problem came up. Sometimes when I press the home button once, it thinks i pressed it two times engaging my music playlists to come up (which i assigned when pressing the home button twice). Software/hardware problems you think? Also, I noticed that my home button is kind of loose like i could wiggle it ever so slightly. Anyone else having problems?

Thanks,
~Dominic

There was a time when my iPod earphones bonked out. The volume/remote control did not work and the same things that you all said happened (i.e.: voice control turns on and off by itself, songs shuffle on their own, the song turns chipmunky, etc.) but these stopped when I took out the earphones. I replaced them with a new pari and all these did not recur.

My guess is that when the speakers/earphones you use have a problem with the plug thingy (the one where you plug into the unit), this may cause these erratic behaviors. Try replacing the speakers/earphones and see what happens.

I have since brought my earphones to the shop since my unit was still under warranty, and they have replaced it with a new pair. It's working perfectly now.

This just started happening to my iPod touch, songs and podcasts coming on and off randomly, changing playing speed, and Voice Control popping up constantly. I use a straightforward Mac, not Windows nor Boot Camp.

Those of you who posted months ago, did this really just stop by itself? Or was full restoration necessary? If so, did that solve the problem? My iPod is unusable.

I've only had my Touch a few weeks and hate to think of having to buy new head phones and don't want to go out of pocket $35 or so for the same phones that should already work. 😟 It does that crazy voice activation thing I have to constantly cancel, skipping and pausing songs at random, speeding them up, etc. Please Apple, issue a bug fix.
