possible to connect a SCSI scanner (Nikon LS-30 Coolscan III) to Macbook?

I have a Macbook 13'' polycarbonate unibody on OSX 6.2. I also have an old Nikon LS-30 Coolscan III negative scanner that I would like to use. As this is a SCSI scanner with a parallel port on one end of the output cable, I purchased an adaptor cable to connect this to the USB on the macbook.

However according to system profiler, the Macbook does not detect the Scanner. But It does detect the parallel to USB cable.

For the driver, I am using Vuescan on trial as Nikon software does not support this scanner in OSX.

I have made sure that the scanner is properly terminated and ID set to 0 as recommended by Vuescan. The cables are properly connected and I have turned on the scanner before booting up the Macbook.

How can i get the Macbook to detect the scanner? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Macbook 6,1, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Although the parallel port on the scanner might look like a regular parallel port, I venture to guess that it's actually a special-purpose SCSI connector, and not compatible with the USB converter you've got.

If you put an old parallel port-style printer on the USB converter, I bet it would work. I guess what you really need, is a SCSI-USB converter and I doubt these actually exist. You might be better off passing this old scanner to eBay and get yourself a more recent USB-based one.
