Old QT 5 and 6 versions

I teach a high school astronomy class and need to load an old version of QuickTime onto some old SuperMacs running OS 8 in order to use an astronomy program called Starry Night.

I used my iBook to download QuickTime 6.0.3 and also QuickTime 5.0.5, because I am not sure which will work best with what I have. I want to burn a disc and take them to school to install onto the classroom computers. Each download gave me two different looking icons, a QuickTime Installer.smi and a QuickTime Installer. Opening each icon shows a QuickTime Installer icon inside.

Here are my questions. Why does it seem like I am getting two installers for each download? Is there a difference between them? Which do I need to burn on the CD?

Thanks.

The .smi is a "self mounting image" (think disc image .dmg today).
They may not "work" as you expect.
OS 8 shipped with QuickTime 4 (maybe 5 was available for newer versions) and I don't think QT 6 was available until OS 9.2 and OS X.
You may have to dig through some older software installers to find a working QT installer.
You can quickly determine this based on the size. QuickTime 4.1.2 (the oldest installer I can find on my back-ups) ran about 8MB's.
There may even be a QT installer included with the Starry Night software.
