Lexmark Printer Installation

I have a lexmark T520 Black&white laser printer which workes flawlessly with a Windows PC.

I'd like to use it with my G5 PowerMac machine for larger print jobs, I have a HP inkjet connected just now but its too slow for the bigger runs. The printer has an ethernet port and I'v connected it to the mac via a D-Link ethernet switch.

I downloaded and installed the T520 Mac driver from the Lexmark website, it places a file called Lexmark T520.pkg in the system>library>receipts folder.

When I go to The Apple Print Setup Utility application and select add printer> Lexmark T520 - a dialogue appears stating '' Error: -5''

Any suggestions on why I cant install?

thanks for reading this.

It would be helpful to have information about your computer hardware and your operating system. If the driver you downloaded is:

http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=content&productCode=LEXMARKT520&actp=PRODUCT&id=DR18423&segment=DOWNLOAD&userlocale=ENUS&locale=en

that's for Snow Leopard operating system. You posted your question in the Tiger forums. I don't see a Tiger driver on their support site so it is possible there isn't one. I believe there are a set of drivers called the Gutenprint drivers, but I haven't really looked into those.

It would also be nice to let us know you have posted this question elsewhere, so there isn't a lot of duplication of effort. I noticed this topic:

Edit:
After further searching I found this Tiger driver:

http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=content&actp=DDLIST&productCode=LEXMARK_T520&id=DR14610&os=MAC_OS_X_10_4_X&oslocale=en_US&segme nt=DOWNLOAD&userlocale=ENUS&locale=en

Is that the one you tried?

thanks BD

tried all of your suggestions but I still get the error message

Im not sure what this down loaded file does. I double clicked it and it went through the usual install procedure but what did this do-where are the drivers, how are they activated, apparently the Lexmark printers listed in Printer Utility I accessed are installed with the OS.

My confusion is based on installing Epson and HP printers where a software package installs drivers and printing utility software, also making the printer available in the print browser. The Lexmark drivers install as expected on my XP machine, but the Mac software seams to disappear after installing.

Just wondering, after installing did you repair permissions & reboot?

I'd get EasyFind...

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11076

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/8707

Search your whole drive for files & folder, case insensitive, including invisibles, then sort on Date Modified to see where these files might be.

Oh, In Printer Setup Utility>Default Browser>More Printers, is there not some Lexmark in that top drop down menu?

How about Printer Setup Utility>IP Printer>Protocol?
