I can't seem to find a way to always open in list view for my iDisk folder, the only option is to always open in icon view. Should I be looking somewhere other than view options?
MacBook Pro 17" 2.4GHz,
Mac OS X (10.6.2),
iPhone 3GS 32GB
OK I have the final answer.
open iDisk on your desktop or in finder.
select all the folders and files directly on the root.
open view options and select list view or whatever view you want.
Done.
Open iDisk (obviously it will be in icon view)
Action/Show View Options. Make sure "Always open in icon view" IS CHECKED.
Close iDisk, reopen, and change view to List. (Using view selection at top of window, NOT view options.)
Open view options again and UNCHECK the "Always open in Icon view", it will instantly change to say "Always open in list view", CHECH IT. DONE!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Nothing worked until your suggestion, and I was OBSESSED with figuring it out (I know it is just a little thing ... but it was taunting me every time I opened the folder). I've been using the forums for years, often finding solutions to my inquiries ... but today I finally registered, just to say how much I appreciate your help and willingness to share!
Praise the Lord and MisterCoffee ... he has solved one of the most annoying and unsolvable problems for this user since Snow Leopard was born. Many thanks ...
Excellent, it works and I have been searching for months!!!
Mistercoffee2's description makes it work perfectly without having to go to Terminal to delete folder view "corrupt files" The view will always open in list or icon...or what ever view you choose!
I was having the same frustration with an encrypted disk image, which kept opening in icon view, no matter what I tried. The technique described by MisterCoffee2 solved the problem.
That said, this seems like a very counter-intuitive way for Snow Leopard to work. Apple, was this kind of (undocumented?) complexity really necessary?
I know it's been a long time since you posted re opening iDisk in list view ... but I wanted you to know some of us are still out here benefitting from your advice. Thanks for sharing your solution to this most annoying little problem.
