Bullets spacing issue -driving me nuts

How on earth can I get 2 lines, that are part of 1 bullet-point stay closer together before it goes to the next bullet ????? And-- save this as a list style.
example:

++ Pages is great

++ Pages is great when you know how to make
double sentence bullets

++ Pages forum people know the answer

Note the second bullet is 'grouped", but pages does not do that by default !!
Now i have to do it all manually since it obviously will not save this in my list style since i only apply changes to the "double line-bullet" - its killing me!!

Does anyone know how to do this??
Thanks in advance !!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the Pages forum, Raphael!
Is it this you want?

You use soft line breaks to get the line break without getting a new bullet. Here is an image showing the invisibles. To make a soft line break press Shift key + Return. I have an extra paragraph break before the line break at the end of the second paragraph by mistake.

You will have to learn not to type a return every time you want a new line.

As fruhulda says if you just want to turn the text over without ending the paragraph, use a +Soft Return+

The bullet is only at the start of new paragraphs.

This is not unique to Pages it is in every word processor I know of.

To see what is happening with your text:

+Menu > View > Show Invisibles+

I want the ("bullet 2 - doubled line") lines to have the standard 1pt spacing, but my overall list 3pt

I don't think I quite understand you. Do you want two bullets with 1 point spacing?? Is pt = point?
Two bullets in list style isn't standard in Pages or my view. How about making an image with your 2 bullets and use it in the list. You have the alternative Custom bullet in the List inspector.

3 pt? I really think a space is more than 1 2 or 3 points.

hmmm.. how do i explain.
Let me use inches as example.. since i do not know the correct terminology:

Basic space between all lines in whole document =1 inch

I'd like the space between my bullet points to be 3 inches, but the bullet point with soft break to stay the 1 inch i use in my whole document? does that make more sense ?? i hope so...

is there a way to do that in a list style?

We have space between letters/ characters achieved with the space bar. One press, two press etc.

We have line spacing which is 1 line, 2 (double ) lines, 1,3 lines. Lines can be in points but 1 point and the lines are on top of each other. Line spacing depends on the type used. Helvetica has 14 point spacing when 12 points high. Hoefler text is about 17 points.

When doing a list style you can have a custom image as a bullet. You can' to my knowledge tell the list to always have 3 lines between bullets but iyou several lines in a bulleted paragraph it has to stay in the paragraph. You have to tell the application each and every time how many lines you want and use line breaks and paragraph breaks.

Double bullet image: Write the bullet character you want. Special character is found at the bottom of the Edit menu. Insert them in Pages. Save Pages and open the file in Preview.

Use the crop tool and select the two characters. Tool menu > Crop. Save the image.

This image can be used if you look in the Inspector > T tab > Lists > Bullets and numbering > Custom bullets > choose your bullet image.

Use the bullet, select it and in the Style drawer for list styles click on the red triangle for None > Create a new list style from selection.

Change anything else you want to change like fonts etc and save the doc as a template.

Thank you very much for the extremely helpful information, I just started learning pages, so this has been very helpful. I now have used this technique and it kind of solves the problem:

make list, add extra line between bullets, -> remove bullet for extra line --> use this line as variable space between bullets...

even though i have to ctrl-V this manually for the lines, at least it gives me the variable, and it keeps my file consistent.

Thank you both so much for your help, I learned again today !!!!!

You need to learn basic type setting.

What you are doing is slow, clumsy, breaks down easily and is hard to adjust after you have filled your document with empty spaces.

1. You set the distance between lines of type using line spacing (aka "leading):

+Inspector > Text > Text > Spacing > Line > click on the 2 tiny arrows under the field > Exactly+

eg If your Font is 11pt size you could use 14pt spacing. The 11pt font sits on the 14pt so the lines are 14pts apart.

2. You set the distance between paragraphs with:

+Inspector > Text > Text > Spacing > Before Paragraph or After Paragraph+

eg 6pt Before Paragraph adds an extra 6pts but only before the paragraph and leaves the line spacing alone, putting a bigger gap between paragraphs which is what you are after.

Explore all the settings in this palette and also the List, Tabs and More.

When you have it the way you like it, then you save it as a Style, which you can change universally later.

Download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu and read how it all works. None of this is new to Pages it is in every word processor/DTP program.
