Apple earbuds w. remote not working on iPhone 3Gs w. OS 3.1.3.

Hey everyone.
As it says above, I have some problems with the earbuds that came bundled with the 3Gs.
I'm able to listen to music, and the microphone is also working fine, but I'm not able to use the remote to control the iPhone: Either the iPod section of the phone, or Voice Control is responding when I'm pressing on the remote. The problem is not caused by moist, or a loose wire, since I have tested the same earbuds at a 3rd generation iPod shuffle, without having a single problem.
I'm guessing it has something to do with OS 3.1.3, since the problem first have occured after updating the iPhone.

Has anybody experienced something similar, or has a solution to my problem?
Thanks in advance.

Jacob Raun

Ps. I'm sorry if this is common knowledge, but I have not been able to find a similar case.

It does sound like either you've got a faulty phone or a faulty bit of software. Here're a few things to try:

1) Try inserting the plug into the phone with the phone NOT in standby and UPRIGHT.
2) Try resetting the phone on a different computer (preferably with a clean iTunes installation) and see if that helps.

If one of the two suggestions make the remote work – it is a software issue. Otherwise it must be something to be passed over to a Genius...
