Log and Transfer Crashes on me in FCP7 - can't upload our Christmas video.

I am trying to upload some Family Christmas video to Final Cut Pro 7. I recorded it on a Canon Vixia HF200 SD Card. When I go into FCP - click log and capture (the video drive is connected and I am using a USB cord). The color wheel spins for a minute and crashes Final Cut Pro.

I switched SD cards and I can upload some other video, but this is card for some reason is not allowing me to upload those precious Christmas moments. Any suggestions for a work around? Or how to fix the problem?

The video plays just fine on the camcorder. I have tried to copy the files to the hard drive and than put them on another SD card and that did not work either.

I am using a iMac Intel Core 2 Duo with Max OSX 10.6.2. Everything system wise is new and up to date.

Create a new empty folder called "Christmas" on your Mac, and then when the SD card is mounted on the desktop find the BPAV folder within that card and drag and drop it to your Christmas folder so that you end up with a copy of the BPAV folder and all its contents. Now open FCP's Log and Transfer and add the Christmas folder (press Cmd I, navigate to the Christmas folder and press Open)

Thanks DC. I am sorry, it is going to sound like I don't know what I am doing, but I don't. I have opened up Compressor and got to Batch Files. I don't see a setting to switch it to ProRes 422. Also, what file do I drag and drop into the window. I tried playing around with it and none of the files will work, including .MTS or . CPI.

Thanks for taking the time to help me.

Okay guys, thanks for your help. Sorry I have been on the road for a few days and have not been on my mac.

I did as your tutorial suggested. As I do it I get:

"File open error: unrecognized file type - open anyway? ok?"

So I hit open anyway. It starts the process and than comes up.

"Files were not added to the batch list, the last one for the following reason: can't read the frame size."

Any more suggestions? - whew I feel like this is a tough one.
Thanks everyone for your assistance, I appreciate it.

I am having the exact same problem as you are, except that my version of FCP would Log and Transfer CPI files from my Canon HF11 just fine until this week when it just all the sudden stopped recognizing the SDHC card and it now causes FCP to quit unexpectedly whenever I try to log and capture from the card.

Did you ever get an answer for this?

I have the most up to date version of FCP. Compressor won't read the files. It doesn't work even if I copy directly to the desktop then try importing to FCP. Any ideas?
