Lose Internet Connection

After installing Leopard, my internet connection suddenly drops anywhere between 10 and twenty minutes after boot up. The message says "you are not connected to the internet" Checking the network settings, it states that there is no Ethernet cable connected to the computer. Unpluging and reinserting the cable does not work. A restart corrects the problem and it then does not recur. This never happened with Tiger.

Any ideas as to why this happens?

Everything works perfectly with Tiger. There are two other computers connected to the router. Both with Tiger and working perfectly. The problem has something to do with Leopard because even Leopard works OK after a restart. This IS something I can live with although it is annoying. I was just wondering if this was a known issue with Leopard. When I get the message "You are not connected to the internet" the other computers are connected and working. When I run the setup, it states that there is no cable connected to the Ethernet port. Only a power down restart solves the problem. A menu restart doesn't work.

Rabushka:

The "You are not connected to the internet" message can sometimes be caused by a hiccup in the Network settings, which 'may be' caused by competing interfaces.
If you are connecting by Ethernet, then in the Network panel, have Ethernet at the top of the left hand side list, to give it priority. If you don't use Airport switch it off (you can do that by selecting the service and clicking on the little gear at the bottom of that window)

So having just the Ethernet green and the rest red, tends to keep it focused and since doing this myself, no longer get those drop outs.
