How to configure Airport Extreme for full Xbox live functionality ?

Hello,

My first post to the forum - I've been going through the archives, but couldn't find a solution for the problem I'm having with my Xbox 360 connected to the Airport Extreme I bought recently.

Situation is as follows:
The Extreme works flawless with my macbooks, imac and iphones. The Xbox 360 connects through the wireless Xbox 360 adapter fine; I can sign in to my Xbox live account and play games on-line.

However, when I go the Marketplace channels and try to load its content, it look like a time out occurs and I get a '80072ee2' error. Some channels (movies sometimes) do load the first page with titles, but when I select one, I end up with the 80072ee2 again. It feels like it's working 'sometimes' but I can't find the logic in when or why...

I spoke to Xbox support and was told to open the following ports in my router:

TCP 80
UDP 88
TCP 3074
UDP 3074
TCP 53
UDP 53

I got to the port settings in the airport config, but I'm not sure how to proceed as to what to select, public UDP/TCP, private UDP/TCP, what private IP address to enter etc. I called Apple care for help and they suggested this support forum...

I have a Ubee cable modem (part of the installation kit of my -Dutch- provider Ziggo) to which the Airport is connected. All other devices I use in my wifi network work fine with the current setup.

Any suggestions...?

Macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2), Ubee cable modem

Fveldkamp, Welcome to the discussion area!

The public UDP/TCP port would be set to the port you want to forward.

The private UDP/TCP port would be set to the port you want to forward.

Usually these have the same value.

The private IP address is the IP address provided by the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to your Xbox. If your AEBS is handing out addresses in the default range, it would be something like 10.0.1.x.

Not that this helps you, but I am experiencing the exact same problem. I have opened the ports suggested by Microsoft and it doesn't resolve the issue. It also affects Netflix service. I am using a hardwired connection directly to my AEBS.

I have tried opening the ports, changing my DNS to openDNS, talked to Netflix, Microsoft Support and my ISP. All indications point to this being a problem with the airport extreme and the way it handles the XBOX connection.

Netflix told me I wasn't connected to the Internet.
MS Support told me I didn't have enough bandwidth (Trust me that isn't the case 40Mbps download 5Mbps)
Roadrunner lightning support laughed at both those things.

I have read several post about people having this issue with the newest airport extreme and switching back to an older model resolves the issue. Unfortunately, my older model won't let me get my full bandwidth. I would love another suggestion or a fix for this problem as well. It is more than frustrating to buy Apple's flagship router only to find out it breaks something that worked on an older version. I am going to try to call Apple tomorrow, but don't have high hopes about getting it resolved based on previous posts with the same problem.

I didn't. I wanted to give them an entire week to sit on it before I called. What I did do this morning to make sure it is the router is hard reset both the old and new router. Set them both up with the exact same settings and tried again. The old one works flawlessly and the new one gives me the exact same problem. No Netflix and no XBox Live Marketplace. There is definitely a problem here. The old one shows Model #A1301 and the new one shows Model #A1354. What model is yours?

I did track down 2 other Airport Extreme Model#A1354. One is at my coworkers house and he isn't haven't the same issue. He has a brand new one with the same model number he is bringing me tomorrow to try. I will let you know how that one works back at my place. I just called my Apple Rep and left him a message to call me. I am wondering if they had a bad batch since one with the 54 model number works and one doesn't.

Okay, quick update. Apple called me back and asked for the config file. I tried the second A1354 router and it has the exact same issue. This second router was new in the box. I am sending Apple the config files tonight and will get back with you as soon as I hear back from them.

Here is the email I sent:

Okay, so here is what I have tried. I switched out the A1354 for my older router A1301. When I did the netflix and Xbox Live Marketplace started working. I hard reset both routers and reconfigged them and still got the same result. The A1354 will not connect to netflix and the xbox live marketplace but the A1301 will. To rule out that it is just my router, one of my coworkers had a new in box A1354 and he loaned it to me. I configged it and got the exact same result as my A1354. Attached are the config files from the A1301 and the A1354 routers. Again, both A1354 block netflix and XBox Live Marketplace, but the A1301 does not.
