iMovie '09

When I connect my SONY DCR-SR47 with USB and opens iMovie the camera is not recognized in the iMove (it is recognized on the iMac) and then suddenly the iMovie shuts down, all this means I can't import anything from my camcorder to iMovie, can anybody help me?
