Itunes and Mac doesn't recognize my Ipod

I know other people have this problem but I am still unable to find a solution that works. I have a 30 GB Ipod Video that when plugged into my Macbook, only charges. It doesn't appear in Itunes, Finder, Device Manager, or anything else.

1. I've tried the 5 Rs.
2. Tried manually enabling Disk Mode
3. Used different cables
4. Hard Reset Ipod.
5. Reset PRAM settings

Everything above didn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mac OS X (10.5.6)

It could be a tiny bit of fluff in the dock that's preventing a particular wire from connecting. A magnifying glass and a decent light should let you inspect the port. If there is any rubbish lodged in the dock opening use a can of compressed air or a fine needle to ease it out taking care not to damage the connectors.

But it's able to charge. If there was something in the way, shouldn't it prevent the ipod from even doing that?

It's a 30 pin connector, only 2 of which are used for USB traffic.

It still didn't work and now it won't even charge. **** ipod. Now it just hangs on the "Please wait, Low battery Power" message.

If you saw something lodged in and poked around to remove it I assume you took due note of my warning to *take care not to damage the connectors*. I'm not sure what else I can suggest.

It wasn't charging prior to cleaning the connectors.
