Aperture 3 will not import image files on hard drives (need bug check).
For the past several days, I've been encountering an issue where Aperture will not recognize photos on a local hard drive (internal or external) for import, but will recognize the
exact same image if it is located on a flash card. In fact, I can drag an image from a card to my desktop and it will not be recognized. If I drag it back to the card, it is available for import again. It is not a 100% occurrence however, but doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason. Restarting Aperture does not help, but this is not to say it won't be working fine the next day.
I am investigating whether anyone else has this issue for a possible bug report.
Thanks

Have you confirmed the file type selection in the import panel? I think (not sure) that this defaults to different settings for cards v. HD's. I stumbled over a this several times as I was setting up Ap3, as it would suddenly show nothing to import. (And for importing from a HD I had to -- again, iirc -- select one of the " ... as master" settings to get it to 'see' the files.)
If this is not applicable, well, never mind. Good luck.
I am having a similar problem. The import panel will NOT see any of the .jpg files on my desktop or on a flash drive I have connected to the USB port of the computer. I can't find anything on the import panel to set the files types. I hope someone can offer a solution as this completely stymies my work flow.
Import working fine here, in a replication of what you report trying to do. If you click on arrow beside Import Settings at the top right, do you not see File Types among the choices?
Also, how long do you wait for the Import window to populate?
Thanks Ernie. I just found the culprit for me. As part of the Import Settings I had set 'import:' to 'RAW files only'. Duh. Resetting that drop down menu to 'Both (RAW as Master)' solved the problem for me, I now see the .jpg files on my desktop.
I'm having this problem right now. If I switch to a flash card reader with a card inserted, it immediately shows the thumbnails of files available for import. I just finished importing a backup folder of images and that worked as expected, but going back to other folders show nothing inside of them to import.
The File Types panel from Import Settings shows no exclusions checked and the RAW+JPEG Pairs settings do nothing (in any case, this should only apply to RAW+JPEG pairs, which I don't have).
