Text-to-speech with pause and resume?

I use text-to-speech to review my own writings. Is there any way to pause it (e.g. when I hear a problem & want to make a note) and resume from where it paused?

If not, any recommendations on scripts/apps that do this well?

Thanks!

The easiest way to do this is to use VoiceOver rather than the other built-in text-to-speech facilities. Navigate to the text you wish to read, and VoiceOver will start to read it. Press Ctrl and the reading will pause. Press Ctrl again and VoiceOver will carry on where it left off.

If VoiceOver does not begin to read the text, you can tell it to by hitting Ctrl-Option-A.
