dealing with +44 (0) numbers

hi all

In the UK a lot of people write their phone number in email sigs as +44 (0) xxxx. This means that if you're dialing in the UK you dial 0xxxxx and if you are abroad and calling the UK, you'd dial +44 xxxx.

I often need to dial a number from an email and the iPhones ability to offer me the option to call is very helpful. But the phone simply dials the number in the mail, which is often in the format +44(0)xxx xxx and it can't deal with that- I get a call failed message.

Most other handsets I've used in the past can deal with the +440xxx number but I end up having to create a temp contact and editing the number to remove the +44, which is a huge pain in the bum.

I hope I'm not the only one who has this issue - surely its a big international thing? Is there a fix to this problem at all or am I being dumb?

Thanks

Simon
