Iphone makes calls by itself

I've got an iphone 3gs on pay as you go with 02, on a few occaisions my phone has made phone calls by itself during the night. I know this because I get a balance update message on screen whenever I send an sms or make a call and when I've disconnected the phone from the charger in the morning I see the balance update. Checking back through the call logs show calls that I never made.

Anyone else had this problem or know a solution?

My wife's iphone is doing this as well.

Talk about a security breach...

Every time my wife calls someone, after ending the call and locking it via the shut off switch, it immediately calls back the person who she was talking to or another person on the recent list.

The kicker is: the phone appears to be completely off. That's right, if you look at it you would have no idea there was someone on the other end listening, that is unless you start hearing them screaming "hello!, what's going on?, why did you call me!"

Upon searching many forums I saw that someone had to exchange their phone at an apple store for a new one and then were told by the genius crew there that they *_"should not reload any of their apps as there is a possible problem with third party apps activating the calling feature."_*

So I guess the questions are: is there a fix? or should I exchange my wife's phone? When will this be fixed- after someone important in government official leaks secret info because it called back some diplomat and allowed them to spy on them through the phone?

More importantly, this big of a breach of security demands apple to come out and say something, so the herd of uninformed consumers know, as maintaining silence on a faulty product is going to harm their customers.

+Of course anything connected to the internet that has a cam and a mic can be compromised (security systems, phones, laptops)...+

In my case, my 3G called my wife both times. She answered and heard nothing... must have been quiet in my office. I never knew it until she asked me about it. I then checked my Recents and sure enough, it was there. Of course, it's in her call log too. Happened again a few days later but not since. Interestingly, she's the first person on my Favorites list.

My iphone3g just started doing this yesterday only it also shows that I am getting calls too. It has called my parents and my sister and has started ringing showing they were calling me but the phone line was dead when I answered it. I was on a land line phone talking to my sister and my iphone started ringing and it said her cell phone (not an iphone) was calling me. She said her phone was in another room. Would love a solution to this if anyone has one.

Thanks!

I am wondering if this is a software issue with voice dialing? To test if this is the case, go into settings, general, passcode lock. Set a password for the lock if you haven't already done that. Then click on voice dial and turn it off. When you are done using the phone for the night have it lock. No outward calls will be allowed as long as the phone is locked (if the phone has not been hacked that is). Hope that helps.

The second issue could be due to hackers. If someone is sniffing the wireless traffic they could pick up your phone's ID and other data, making calls off their hacked phone. You would still get notified a call was made even though your phone didn't call since the notification would still be sent to your number.

This would at least help you confirm if your phone was actually doing the dialing. There are iPhone hacks that allow control of the phone. Locking the phone would certainly help prevent it from dialing out but depending on what hack is used, there may be ways around locking the phone that I'm not aware of. Give this a try and let us know what happens. Sounds like an interesting case.

Oh, and about the response that phones don't dial by themselves. Here's one out of left field... Computers don't type by themselves! Wanna bet..? While fixing a model 1 I discovered the owner had plugged the power into the cassette port and blown something. I replaced each chip by chip until I was down to the final issue. The computer typed by itself within a few seconds of booting up. I determined the problem was a damaged rom chip and I could force it to begin typing by putting a finger on the end of the chip. Still wanna bet phones don't dial by themselves?

My phone did it many many times. I called and got a replacement. The replacement just did it again recently. It has done this effectively recording meetings I am in and sending them to others' voicemail box - very disconcerting. My professional colleagues have received these calls with their voices on the recordings. They don't trust me to have my iPhone with me in any meetings now. I don't know what to tell Apple Support now after replacing my phone once already. Will they believe me?

One more thing, this was not case of "butt-dialing". I was with a colleague when his phone rang. He looked down and saw it was coming from my phone after it had been just sitting in my briefcase for over an hour on the floor. I had just stood up with my briefcase in my hand to leave when it made this call. The phone had long since been in the lock mode so there was no chance of butt-dialing. It had no chance of touching me. I don't know if the motion caused something to happen - but in the locked mode??? How could that have happened?
