disabilitating glitch in chess

I posted this problem a while back, but the proposed solution to "trash the chess preferences" didn't work. The problem is that whenever I try to play a chess game, at one point, when I'm about to move, my piece suddenly floats back to the spot where I was moving from, and the computer plays its move as if it were its turn. This began happening gradually. When I first got this powerbook, I could play a whole game without problems. Then, this started happening late in the game, then closer to the beginning, and now on my first or second move. Because of it I can no longer use the chess program.

Has anyone ever had this problem? I'd really like to fix it so I can play some chess. Thanks.

Well, I've got to admit that I used to play chess...but I'm not exactly sure how to fix this...

Two things you might try:

1. under User>Library>Preferences find com.apple.Chess.plist and trash it. See if Chess plays without cheating.

If this doesn't help:

2. Download the application Pacifist at http://www.charlessoft.com/

This application will allow you to install parts of your install disk (including Chess).

I'd run Pacifist to make sure you can install Chess, and then then, before actually installing, I'd trash your old Chess application.

Install the new Chess application, and see what happens!

Good luck,
Bob
