How to change the printable area for "save as PDF" function?

Hey experts,

I have got a problem to save a word doc into PDF with the printable area settings.

10.6.x does not support the Adobe PDF printer any more. Alternatively, we have to use the "save as PDF" menu. However, when I have a word doc with header and footer, the "save as PDF" function continuously says the footer is outside the printable area!

Does anybody know if there is a way to change the printable area of the "save as PDF" function?

Thanks!

I've just checked and it seems that both methods of saving to pdf don't include headers and footers. I haven't checked whether this is a SL problem or whether it's a docx problem.

Have you tested with .doc files or only .docx? If the problem applies to both I suggest that, failing someone else providing a solution to this, you put in a report to Apple. If it is only with .docx I suggest a bug report to Microsoft but you could also try first saving your files as .doc & then convert to pdf to see whether it can be done this way.

Thank you guys for your responses!

I have Word 2008 version 12.2.3 installed in SL 10.6.2.

First, insert page numbers in the footer using the default settings. Then print your doc by either "save as - .pdf" or "print - save as PDF" function. Both methods result in a message "a footer is outside the printable area".

I tried it several times...

Thanks

I have been having the same issue, with both 10.5 and 10.6, using Word 2004 and 2008.

You'll get the error doing command+p, and then clicking preview, which is the same as printing a PDF, but without really saving it. If you have your top margin/header, below 0,7 cm and/or your bottom margin/footer below 1,5 cm, you'get the message saying that they're going to be outside the printable area.

If you try using, for example, 1,3 cm for the footer, you'll get the message, but there is a good chance you'll see your footer printed correctly, if it is one row only.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with the software you use to send the file to the printer, but some weird setting of the print area within the PDF printer of MacOs. This is where it should be changed... there should be some way to make the PDF printer go on a full-page-print mode.

I'll try with photoshop and see what happens.

P.S. The examples above have been done using a A4 format.

OK, just made an experiment with photoshop. When asked to make a pdf preview of a full colored A4 page, the printer shrinks it, and showing it with a white boarder. Saving the pdf, importing it in photoshop and putting it over the original A4 image shows that it has been shrinked of about 1 cm on each side.

Defenately something wrong with the pdf printer
