I just installed iTunes 6.0 and after restarting my computer I tried to open iTunes and a window poped up and immediatly closed. It looks like it has an 'Accept' or 'Decline' option but it closes before I can do anything. I tried re-installing, un-installing and re-installing older versions but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any tips?

Have you tried using msconfig to find a conflict?

yes my laptop came with itunes 4. when i first tried to update to six, it coninually claimed that the files were corrupt. then i upgraded quicktime separately, then the download worked. but after downloading and instaling, it refuses to run. i think the first time there was that box, but it disappeared so quickly i didnt know what to make of it.

it refses to run, i have uninstalled and reinstalled it multiple times with the same result every time.

when i click to open it, not only will it not open, but with windows task manager, it will not remove itself from the processes list when i click "end process" or "end process tree"

*** is up with this? i cant even shut down my computer once it does that. i have to manually sut it down every time

Hey there serenitysweet, I see this is your first post here.

And hey everybody else just posting one time to get an answer.

This is a user-to-user board, and lots of people are having problems. The interface has changed here at Apple discussions and I'm trying to adjust.

I am so, so tired of reading *** messages. I feel like I'm being sworn at, and I am sure you are just swearing at the software. But it makes me not want to answer, ya know?

Welcome to discussions, all you newbies. I'm sure we'll get you sorted, eventually.

    Hi all,

Struggling to install iT6 too ! I have done the necessary windows upgrades as per the troubleshooting suggests, still no luck after rebooting for the past 4.5 hours.

Getting an error message regarding corrupt files and keeps putting me thru to itunes site loop of install, download, open or save only which takes over 2 hours and huge memory and still no success.

    Please heeeelpppp....Regards Dee K

Hi Dee K, what is the exact error message about corrupt files? Does it have a number with it?
  • Dee K Level 1 (0 points)
    Hi there,

    Thanks for the reply....
Sorry for the confusion, no error message just the File download dialogue box asking me to Open, Save or Cancel, my only otions too, which takes over two hours, and fails to save or upgrade anyway ???? It states that the files could harm my computer and if it looks suspicious do not open....Cant send you a screen print of the dialogue box in this format....Its just the iTunesSetup.exe files

    Cheers...Dee K

    Hi needle & bigreeve

If you've not found any acceptable remedy yet... jump over to my post for Jim. You're up against a very nasty pest if indeed it is the "winsync" mal-ware.

That sounds like Norton or McAfee thinking it is a bad file.

iTunes should be OK, I don't know why they can't get Apple on their list of OK sites.

If you turn off the security stuff, can you download iTunesSetup.exe to your hard drive?

Then disconnect your internet while you do the install from your hard drive so nothing can mess with your PC on the internet.

Norton/McAfee WILL work with iTunes, but they are clueless until you, the owner of the security software, says it's OK.

    hi serenitysweet!

like Katrina, i am also incredibly tired of *** messages. it's probably a contributing factor to me not being able to bear spending much time in this forum over the past few days.

when i click to open it, not only will it not open, but with windows task manager, it will not remove itself from the processes list when i click "end process" or "end process tree"

if itunes.exe is persisting in Task Manager, the first two possibilities you should check up on are:

    ... and:

    keep us posted.
