iPhone connected to iTunes but is not syncing

Hi guys,

I recently upgraded my iPhone to iPhone 3GS, and in the beginning it works fine with my iTunes. Now when I connected it to my iTunes via cable, it shows up under 'DEVICES' but when I click on it, all it shows on the screen is iPhone.

I can't see what's inside my iPhone, I can't put new songs in, basically I can't do anything about it, including backup or restore.

Does anybody else have this problem? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

iPhone 3GS, iPhone OS 3.1.3

Not sure what this means. When you select your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list, this should provide the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes in the main iTunes window.

If you want to manually manage music and videos, this must be selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences. If you want to transfer music via the iTunes sync process, this is selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences and so on.

The similar scenario has happened to my wife iPhone 3Gs after the update of firmware 3.1.3.

The iTunes recognized her iPhone but she was not able to sync. The sync process did not appear on her iPhone screen. It is just appears as normal charging.

Fortunately, we have found the solution and her iPhone is syncing as normal again.

. Sync to iTunes on MAC to back up saved content and data.
. Select reset all content and settings on iPhone.
. After the reset process, plug in iTunes logo will appear on the iPhone screen.
. Plug in to iTunes (ensure it is the latest iTunes version)
. It will then prompt two options: either to restore as 'new iPhone' or 'saved iPhone ID'.
. If you opt for saved iPhone ID, all the saved content and settings will be restored as normal.
. Either way the iPhone will be able to sync again with iTunes.

I hope this will help.
