Time capsule error - (OSStatus error 57.)

Hi,

I am having trouble to access my back up in my time machine. I am getting the following message.

Time Machine can’t access the backup disk “Data”
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 57.)

What should I do?
Thanks in advance
Daniel

Daniel,
I don't know if this will help you as the error i have received is different, but after speaking to apple support here are a few things you can try to help fix this issue:

1) In airport utility check the name of the device (nothing in this comment has to do with networking)
I was told that if the name is long, i.e. "John Appleman's Time Machine" it can cause trouble.

2) Try and name the device with the same name you name the disc (in airport utility, click on disks, and rename the disk, normally labeled "data", with the same name of your time capsule.

When I did that, i finally got an answer to my problem, which turned out to be a hardware failure of the device which was only able to be diagnosed by the device after i did steps 1 & 2.

I hope this help you. Let me know.
