Error 3259 for Podcasts in Windows 7; Still no answer!

I am about to bag the entire iTunes podcast experience! I continually get a "Stopped Error 3259" message on any podcast longer than a few minutes. I have been researching this for weeks and have yet to find an answer that worked. Everyone seems to just, eventually, let it go.

Well, Apple is going to lose an immense amount of revenue from this error, because sooner of later, everyone will be using Windows 7. Most Podcasts, I'll grant you, are free, but I have heard complaint after complaint about podcasts, movies, music all suffering from this error.

I have tried everyone's boiler plate generic solutions: Check your firewall, check your permissions, check your virus scanner, set download to single file. Look, I've tried them all. None of them, I mean NONE of them work.

I am going to have to resort to using FeedDemon if I don't get an answer soon. Well, let me correct that, I AM using FeedDemon, which works, since iTunes simply will not work at all.

Does anyone have an answer other than the run of the mill, useless responses I have been getting? I would really like to hear from someone.

Hi Jzinsky!

Thanks for offering your input, but it's just like I said, there is NO ONE out there who has an answer. I have downloaded the current version of iTunes, I've downloaded one they deem 64-bit. NONE of them work. I can download podcast of about 3 minute duration with no problem. Anything of more substance and whamo! I get the 3259 error. You would think that Apple would be concerned about lost revenue, because according to other posts, this is a problem with the iTunes store too. Anyway, I didn't really think anyone would have an answer.

I'm going to switch to Google Reader with a FeedDemon synchchronization. Then I can drag and drop the files onto my iPod. Not as conventient, but WAY less frustrating.

dont know if this helps on windows - seems to have wOrked a few times on OSX.

had same issue - error 3259 on downloads. came across another post 11168138, which said.... "I think I may have found the solution. I turned off my file sharing a few weeks ago because I was using a hotel network. When I turned it back on, it works again. Try this: -System Preferences > -Sharing > -I clicked only "File Sharing". And that worked for me. Good luck!"

so I gave it a try... unticked the file sharing box & reticked it...immediately downloads started to appear.

ike i said not sure about Windows OS, but it might give you another direction to try. hope it helps

Thanks Chris, but this doesn't work. I am on Windows 7, and I'm not sure if I was able to do what you recommended, but whatever I did not solve the problem. I would think that Apple itself would monitor these boards and come up with an answer. They are truly losing money on this issue. I suppose I'll just wait until they come up with a solution for Windows 7. Thanks!

Normally, error 3259 occurs while downloading a Podcast, but your first post said "I continually get a "Stopped Error 3259" message on any podcast longer than a few minutes", which makes it sound as though it fails while listening to them.

So I'll assume this happens while downloading and although I don't use Windows 7, it's worth considering whether this is the problem:
iTunes only allows three downloads at the same time and anything else is placed in a queue. However, suppose you have Podcasts waiting in the queue, after a while, iTunes "thinks" that these Podcasts have failed to download and it (iTunes) posts error 3259, which is a "time-out". In addition, the BBC (in the UK) normally only allow two Podcasts to be downloaded to the same computer (or I.P. address I suppose) at the same time. So even if iTunes is trying to download a Podcast, if the provider is allowing less than iTunes is asking for, then once again the error 3259 will be posted.

The solution is:
either try the failed downloads again after the first ones have finished, attempting no more than three at once, or check for downloads more frequently so that there are not so many in the queue.
