I'm a medical student and I found a text document that has over 10K medical terms listed. I was wondering if there was an easy way to get all these words to be added into the built in OS X dictionary or if I would have to do it the hard way and spell check the document hitting learn 10K times.

Thanks

user added words are kept in a regular text file home directory/library/spelling/LocalDictionary. one word per line. you can edit this file in any text editor and summarily dump the terms you need there. then log out/in.

Where is the corresponding file for Mail, please? I just incorrectly added a word by mistake in Mail, but the word is not in ~/Library/Spelling/LocalDictionary. Thanks.

    never mind, disregard my question.

when you right click on a word underlined in red and tell spell check to "ignore," it doesn't add the word to LocalDictionary. when you tell it to "learn," that's when the word is added.
